West Palm Beach, FL – Dr. Barry M. Gregory, Ed.D., M.Ed., a nationally recognized advocate for rehabilitation, recovery, and successful reentry, is transforming lives and strengthening communities through his leadership as Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the National Reentry Coalition (NRC).

After being released from prison, Dr. Gregory made a personal commitment to turn adversity into purpose. Rather than allowing his past to define his future, he dedicated his life to helping justice-impacted individuals successfully reintegrate into society and avoid the cycles of incarceration, substance use, homelessness, and unemployment that often challenge individuals returning from correctional settings.

Today, Dr. Gregory is recognized for advancing evidence-based rehabilitation, recovery, and reentry practices in jails, prisons, treatment programs, and community-based organizations throughout the United States. His work focuses on helping agencies implement proven strategies that reduce recidivism, prevent relapse, improve public safety, strengthen families, and create pathways to long-term success.

"People are more than the worst mistake they have ever made," said Dr. Gregory. "Recovery, rehabilitation, and successful reintegration are possible when individuals have access to evidence-based programs, supportive communities, and opportunities to rebuild their lives."

Under Dr. Gregory's leadership, the National Reentry Coalition has become a growing network of professionals, organizations, individuals with lived experience, community leaders, and advocates committed to promoting safer communities through effective rehabilitation and reentry initiatives.

A key component of NRC's growth and future impact is the organization's Reentry Leadership Collaborative, a talented and dedicated group of professionals, advocates, researchers, community leaders, and individuals with lived experience who are working alongside Dr. Gregory to strengthen the organization's capacity and long-term sustainability.

Together, the Collaborative is developing a comprehensive, outcome-based blueprint designed to help the National Reentry Coalition expand its reach, secure additional funding, establish measurable performance outcomes, and maximize its impact on justice-impacted individuals, families, and communities nationwide. The blueprint is intended to provide a strategic framework for growth while ensuring that NRC remains focused on evidence-based practices and meaningful results.

"The success of NRC is not about one person," said Dr. Gregory. "It is about a team of committed leaders who share a vision for safer communities, stronger families, and better opportunities for justice-impacted individuals. I am grateful to work alongside such a talented group of professionals who are helping turn that vision into reality."

The NRC works to

  • advance evidence-based rehabilitation, recovery, and reentry programs

  • support justice-impacted individuals and their families

  • provide training and professional development opportunities

  • encourage collaboration among community stakeholders

  • advance policies and practices that improve reentry outcomes

  • strengthen public safety through successful reintegration

  • expand funding for safer and stronger communities and families

Drawing upon both his lived experience and extensive professional education, Dr. Gregory has become a respected voice in the criminal justice, behavioral health, and recovery fields. His unique perspective allows him to bridge the gap between research and practice while inspiring others to believe that change is possible.

Through the National Reentry Coalition's newest planned initiative, The Access to Reentry Project, Dr. Gregory and the NRC Reentry Leadership Collaborative are working to expand community access to resources, services, and support systems for individuals returning from incarceration, ensuring they have greater opportunities to achieve recovery, stability, employment, and community success.

"As a nation, we must invest in what works," said Dr. Gregory. "Evidence-based rehabilitation and reentry programs not only change lives—they create healthier, safer, and stronger communities for everyone."
